COVID-19 booster vaccinations

Lots of developments overnight about appointments and Covid boosters:

Firstly and most importantly – although the Government have said GP’s can cancel appointments, we have not done this. Please attend all booked appointments as planned and we will get in touch with you if we do need to cancel or rearrange an appointment. We understand that NHS England will be issuing further guidance shortly and we will be having further discussions about what may need to happen to support the vaccination programme but at this current time there is no change to your planned appointment.

We heard the news about Covid-19 boosters last night, along with the rest of the country. This means that, unfortunately, we don’t yet know much more than you do.

The best way, we think, to book your Covid-19 booster today and tomorrow is going to be via the service running from the Brighton Racecourse. This is the ‘GP-led’ service for our area. Call 0300 303 8060 to speak with them.
From Wednesday all adults over 18 should be able to book via 119 or online.

If you, or someone you know, is waiting for a home visit for Covid-19 and/or flu vaccination, these are being done and you haven’t been forgotten. We’re unable to change the priority that these visits are done in and they are not being done by our own nurses.

All of these services are likely to be extremely busy, so if you are unable to book at the moment, try again a bit later. We’re not able to help with booking at any vaccination centre.

Lastly, our phone lines are likely to be extremely busy this morning with people who require urgent medical attention. If you have read all of the information above and still don’t know the answer to your question about Covid boosters, please call after 2pm.

The official guidance on vaccinations across Sussex is below:

Message to our patients – update on the COVID-19 booster programme

Across Sussex the NHS and its partners are working extremely hard to roll out the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme to our communities.

All adults are eligible from Monday 13 December, and you will be able to book via the National Booking System from Wednesday 15 December.

You can book your booster for 3 months from the date of second vaccine, and you can access the National Booking System to book the appointment from 2 months.

We are working at pace to increase the availability of appointments so that there are plenty of options for people on the National Booking System. Some local vaccination services will also contact patients directly.

New appointments are being added every day across our vaccination services. We have been offering more than 80,000 appointments a week and in the last two weeks we have increased the number of available appointments by more than 10,000 a week. Further availability will come online from Wednesday 15 December.

We will be working with all of our sites to take further steps to increase what they can offer again, including opening later and on more days.

All of these appointments will be added to the National Booking System and so we encourage everyone who is aged 18 and over, is yet to have their booster and who is approaching 3 months from your second vaccine to use the National Booking System to arrange your appointment when you are able to do so.
